This is a small break from the farm series which is
an adorable desktop of my mom's dog oscar. Another
desktop for the dog lovers in the audience and I'm
sure there are a few. Nothing like a wet nosed sleepy
dog to get your awwwwwwww reflex going.

In the morning these flowers bloom to greet the sun.
As the day moves along so do the flowers as they
close for the night. For those of you who have been
long time visitors you may recognize these flowers
from a couple
desktops of this type of flower
growing up a stalk of corn.

I had an image from my farm series that I wanted to
mess around with in photoshop and this is it. It was
a really simple shot snapped off while sitting in a
chair out on a porch in the morning but it seemed
like such a cool little work of art that seemed like
it would be fun to mess with later on. I decided to
take a super minimal approach to the image simply
because thats how I was feeling when I made it a few
minutes ago while listening to a really calm Susumu
Yokota album that I picked up on emusic recently
called Sakura. The name of the image was named after
the first song on that album if you care to know. I
see a lot of artists/designers hopping on the trendy
looking vector graphic train that have all sorts of
elaborate intricate little details and hidden
messages in japanese or some techy looking font and
I've been through that a year or two ago back when I
started making desktops because thats what I thought
people wanted but I soon realized that I should
simply stick to what I feel like looking at. Anyways,
long story short, I decided to take a really
simplistic approach to this one and post it as is but
also post a photoshop file with layers from the
desktop to let readers with photoshop to take it and
make their own version of the desktop. I've never
tried anything like it before in the past and thought
I would give it a shot sooo...
Along with the standard .jpg file I also have
available below a photoshop version of this image in
hopes that some of you readers will download it,
remix it, and send it back to me to post here along
side the original. I know that I don't have too many
readers who are active on the comments or own a copy
of photoshop but I thought it would be fun to give it
a shot. To give an example of what you could try is
using other images of you shot to layer in with this
one or try different colors or shapes or arrangements
or whatever. Just take it and make it your own
somehow. I just ask that if you come up with
something you like then please mail it my way using
the contact form on the site or my email for those of
you who have it. I suppose thats all for now. Enjoy!

Anyone care to guess what this is? I can't remember
what they are called, something to do with
electricity I believe. Whatever it is it caught my
eye with its color and shape. I loved the way the
blueish color was cast down onto the wood of the post
it was sitting on. In retrospect, my only regret was
that I didn't tighten up my aperture a bit more than
I did to get the whole objet in crystal clear focus.
Anyways it makes for a really interesting desktop I
think. Enjoy!
(the name
was taken from a Jaymay song of the same name which
you can find over on iTunes if your curious)

This is the first in a series of desktops featuring
photos taken out on a farm just south of
Charlottesville Virginia where I will be shooting a
wedding in a couple of weeks. I drove up to check out
the area and go through details of the big day and
while I was there I had the chance to shoot with my
new lens and there was plenty of interesting things
to sneak in photos of. This first image is for the
food lovers out there, more specifically garlic
lovers. Picked straight from the garden the garlic
was out to dry and with the late afternoon sun coming
in through the window it was just itching to have a
photo taken of it.

I know that simple long exposures are not really all
that technically hard to shoot, especially as odd and
random as this one here, but something about this
shot seemed to scream desktop to me. Maybe its the
colors and the composition that drew me to like this
one. It was only one out of a couple of them I shot
like this while sitting in the back of a car one
night but I thought it came out better than this type
of shot usually does. Maybe I will look back on this
posing and wonder why I added it but thats the way it
goes in love and desktops. The name of the desktop
was taken from a Dixie Dirt song from one of my
favorite albums of 2005, Pieces of the world.
(Also, I know the
preview here is pretty heavily compressed and is not
looking all that good, I had to do this to keep the
file size down. I promise the full version is much
smoother than this)

This is the desktop that I previewed in the blog a
few days ago. It is a bit different than the preview,
not as bright and a little smoother. This was shot at
a place called hanging rock which I was camping at
last week. Because I stayed the night I had the
chance to hike up my favorite trail there to an
observation tower at the top of a mountain to watch
the sun set. Unfortunately it was pretty cloudy out
and so the view and sunset was not what I had
imagined but It was pretty amazing in it's own way
because fog was blanketing the hills below which made
for a really beautiful landscape. So the photo just
wasnt up to my standards really so in to photoshop it
went and it got the
city of light treatment which
people seemed to like so I figured no one would
mind if I used that style again. Enjoy!
Note: The title came
from an Elliott Smith song from his first solo
release called Roman Candle. My favorite version of
the song however is an acoustic live version that I
have lying around which Id be happy to share with
anyone interested.

If you read the description to
Last Call You may or may not
realize where this was shot. It is on top of an
observation tower at the top of a mountain.
Something about this shot hits me in a personal
way. Part of it is a reminder that It had been
so long since the last time I had been out
hiking on my own and it was nice to get out on
top of the world and gather my thoughts in a
place not so distracting. I could go on more
about this but lets jsut say it has more of a
personal meaning than other shots I put up here.
Also you may notice that I wore sandals up there
which I regret doing, they are not really all
that appropriate for a mile and a half hike up
the side of a mountain, who knows what I was
thinking. At any rate, I hope you all enjoy this
desktop as much as I do.
Note: The title is from
a Vetiver track off of his latest album which I have
been meaning to feature in the blog for some time
now.

This was a vertical shot that I took of a hiking
trail that I decided I wanted to make into a desktop
and the best way to turn a vertical shot into a
horizontal one was to simply flip it and make an
abstract image out of it. Although its a little
strange it still holds a nice feel to it. I've
noticed that this cheeper lens that I bought to
replace my somewhat damaged Canon 50mm f/1.4 does not
handle depth of field as well as I would like. the
Bokeh Is not as smooth as I am used to but what can
you do eh? I may just have to get used to not having
auto focus around and go back to my older lens.
Sorry, don't mean to float off topic there enjoy the
desktop!

This is a desktop added by request. It is a shot of a
stack of amps which are covered in rust that had
fallen from the celling after being flooded with bass
the night before during
BAPLab. Enjoy!
